Joran Van Der Sloot has confessed to killing Stephany Flores Ramirez with a baseball bat. He alleges that she found some information on his laptop concerning the disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway and he killed her to cover it up.
Truth is so simple, yet people go to such extremes to hide it sometimes. Frequently the one to get hurt is not so much the one hiding the truth but innocent victims like Stephany.
I knew a guy once who was in the closet with his male lover. Rather than reveal his sexuality and deal with the inevitable backlash from his church and family, he took a girlfriend.
This woman had no idea that the “roommate” was in fact her fiancée's gay lover, and did everything she could for him and his roommate, at one time even consenting to the possibility of living with the two of them (not sexually, though she thought they were both straight) because he didn’t want to leave his roommate homeless.
The man used his “religion” to avoid sexual intercourse with the woman, who really thought she had met a true gentleman, one who wanted to do everything right.
The two men broke up in a dazzling conflagration, and this poor woman was caught in the crossfire. She could not conceive that the man of her dreams was lying and using her all of that time, bilking her out of thousands of dollars to help pay for their “future home.”
If the truth had been told she would have still been friends with the man in question, she had no issues against homosexuality but as a result of the horrendous wrong done to her she has retreated in confusion. At times she actually blames herself when she did nothing wrong.
I hurt for my friend, and hope that one day she will heal from this injustice that was done to her.
I also want to point out that the simple truth in both of these situations would have saved innocent people.
Whoever you are, what ever you do—please don’t pretend to be something you are not. Regardless of the backlash hold up your head and move on, but don’t hide it. Not only will it come back to bite you in the end but it will end up hurting innocent ones and some of them, like poor Stehany may never be able to recover.
