Counting Blessings

Here the kid and I sit at the Riverfront. I am using the wifi and just got off of a phone conversation with my sister using the MagicJack. We have staked out a nice table close to the Wifi antenna and we are waiting for the music and the fireworks to start.

Things may be considered bad in this economy but today I really feel like counting my blessings. I am just so thankful for the things that I have.

  • I own my own home that is paid for. I do pay $100 a month in lot rent but even at that I am better off than a large number of people in this country.
  • I own my own van that is paid for. It is an older 1999 Ford minivan but it is mine to do with as I please. My insurance is less for 6 months than my friends pay for a single month and the lack of payments is a wonderful thing! I don't ever want a car payment again!
  • I have a laptop. With that laptop I can access the incredible world that is the Internet, for free if I use the multitude of hot spots in this area. I still pay for internet access at home, however.
  • I have a refrigerator full of food, a pantry of dried goods and the equipment to prepare more than enough to eat. 'Nuff said.
  • I have clothes on my back, wonderful children, a beautiful grandson and more than enough of everything!
  • I have a job that allows me to not only work at home but work anywhere I can find a computer and an internet connection. Better yet I get paid twice a week!
  • I have the freedom to live life as I please. To wake up when I want and sleep when I desire.
Life is truly wonderful.  These are the reasons to simplify your life. The ability to focus on what gives you pleasure and eliminate what does not. This is why I minimize, this is why I simplify and this is why I love the life I have.

While most that I know are still struggling in the rat race I have managed to escape from it--and I wouldn't trade this life for the world!
